Sending a well thought out thank you letter to your interviewer after an interview is a great way to ensure that your application stands out over other applicants. However, sending a poorly written letter will have the opposite effect, and for this reason, you need to put careful consideration into the content of your letter. You also need to realise that if you had a disastrous interview simply writing to your interviewer probably won\u2019t make a huge difference.<\/p>\n

Writing a thank you letter to the hiring manager after an interview is actually quite simple. For the purpose of this article, we will assume that you are sending an email to the hiring manager.<\/p>\n

You can use a variety of subject lines. However, I suggest using something simple along the lines of \u201cGreat speaking with you\u201d or \u201cThank you \u2013 Admin Assistant Interview.\u201d<\/p>\n

2) Greeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your greeting will depend largely on the position you are applying for and the culture of the company. If you are unsure what to use \u201cGood Day Mr. Smith\u201d is always a safe bet. However, as I mentioned, different company cultures may permit less formal greetings such as \u201cGood day John\u201d or even \u201cHi John,\u201d in extremely informal company cultures.<\/p>\n

3) Main body<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the most important section for obvious reasons. You are going to want to cover a few points in this section such as thanking them for their time and reaffirming your interest in the position. I recommend that you personalise this section by mentioning something specific from your interview.<\/p>\n

4) Closing paragraph<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your closing paragraph does not need to be exceptionally long. Simply mention that you are available for any follow up questions and that you look forward to their decision.<\/p>\n

In this day and age, I personally feel that using Email is really the only option. I say this for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n

Firstly, and most importantly, sending an Email is almost instant. This means that you can get in touch with your interviewer on the same day as the interview or at the very least the next day. This is great because your interview will still be fresh in the hiring manager’s mind, which may not be the case in a day or two. Especially if the company is interviewing numerous candidates over an extended period.<\/p>\n

Secondly, it does not take as much time as printing and mailing a hard copy letter.<\/p>\n

And Thirdly, Email is generally accepted as the norm for written communication these days. Some recruiters recommend sending a hard copy for high-level positions, however, even in this situation, I would recommend Email.<\/p>\n
