Applying for jobs has become quicker and easier which is great. The downside, however, is that ensuring your application stands out has become so much harder. It does not really matter if you are looking for your first job or if you are currently employed and just looking to make a change, you need to have a plan for your job search. I have put together a few tips for job seekers which will help you to stand out and be noticed.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">These 5 tips for job seekers will hopefully get you started.<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">1) Know your strengths.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Be 100% honest with yourself. Identify skills that you possess and know what you do well and very importantly what you enjoy doing. Knowing this will make it much easier to identify jobs that you are well suited to and which ones you would not be a good fit for. You really do not want to waste your time or an interviewers&#8217; time applying for a position that does not suit your skillset.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">2) Research, research, research<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you have applied for a position and you have been called for an interview you need to research the company as much as possible. You need to know what they do, who they do it for and why they do it. Check if the company has appeared in any news reports recently and make sure you figure out how to work these into the conversation during your interview.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">3) Adapt your CV to each position.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remember that it is vitally important to tailor your CV to the specific position you are applying for. Read through the job description and try to make use of keywords that appear in it. Always keep your CV short and sweet, I recommend keeping a CV under 2 pages in length. You can do this by only listing relevant and recent work experience. As I have mentioned before most recruiters and hiring managers only spend about 10 seconds skimming over your CV before deciding to read it in more detail. You must remember that there is a very good chance a hiring manager will look you up online after shortlisting your CV. You will be making a terrible impression if your Facebook profile picture is of you drinking and partying, or if your wall is full of rants about your current or past employer or co-workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is a great idea to spend one day, preferably before your job search begins, and just make sure that your digital footprint is clean. I recommend even using a professional image for your Whatsapp profile picture, even if it is just for the duration of your job search.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">5) Prepare and practice.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Being prepared for an interview will certainly help calm your nerves during the actual interview. Calm candidates usually appear more confidant and often make a better impression on the interviewer. I recommend you start preparing at least 2 days before the actual interview.
